“Wear This Ribbon…”

The designated color for breast cancer awareness month is pink, specifically pink ribbons. Charlotte Hayley, who had battled breast cancer, introduced the concept of a peach coloured breast cancer awareness ribbon in the early 1990s. She attached them to cards saying, “The National Cancer Institute’s annual budget is 1.8 billion US dollars, and only 5 percent goes to cancer prevention. Help us wake up our legislators and America by wearing this ribbon.

My Aunt Marthy had a keen sense of style and color and made it clear that pink was not one of hers. She loved that it was one of mine though, and that it brought out the blueness from my Irish eyes. I decided to wear pink for her this month, in an unconventional way. I hope that you enjoy the transformation!
